SBSC’s updated certification addresses relevant challenges by enhancing cybersecurity, adapting skills requirements, and ensuring that certified secure storage technicians possess the wide-ranging experience in installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of secure storage systems required by the updated standard.

“Certified secure storage technicians represent a high level of quality and reliability within the industry. With updated requirements, we ensure that certified technicians are equipped to meet current security challenges,” says Fredrik Backman, Team Leader at SBSC.

The updated certification was applied on December 1, 2024 and involves significant changes which enhance both information security and competency within the industry.

Enhanced competency and information security requirements

The revised standard, SSF 1076:3, has been produced in cooperation between SSF (the Swedish Theft Prevention Association), and Sveriges Lås och Säkerhetsleverantörers Riksförbund (the National Organisation for Locksmiths), and contains changes to the theoretical requirements, practical experience and new rules and regulations. Particular emphasis has been placed on protecting confidential information such as customer security solutions and technically sensitive information regarding security products in accordance with SSF 1101, Cybersecurity Basic.

“SSF is working more intensively to ensure that our standards are updated and revised to see to it that they follow the trends in the industry and the world at large. For this reason, we are pleased to publish the sough-after new issue of SSF 1076 to ensure its continued relevance and that it is up to date,” says Anna Bennetter, Standards Manager at the Swedish Theft Prevention Association.

Some changes to the SSF 1076:3 standard:

  • New section on information security: Certified secure storage technicians must protect confidential information in accordance with the cybersecurity requirements of SSF 1101 Cybersecurity Basic.
  • New requirements for training and practical experience: The requirements have been clarified and raised. Certified secure storage technicians must undergo training comparable to technical upper-secondary school training (a minimum of two years). In the alternative, practical work involving secure storage performed not less than twice per year during a period of six consecutive years is required.
  • Updated conduct requirements: Certified secure storage technicians may not have been convicted of any crime which may be subject to a term of imprisonment and/or convicted of financial crimes.
  • Enhanced requirements regarding familiarity with the rules and regulations: Secure storage technicians must be able to interpret, and possess a good understanding of, a series of standards and rules and regulations including several new regulations which have now been implemented in the standard.

Transitional period for existing secure storage technicians

Existing certificates relating to the older edition of SSF 1076:2 shall apply for their regular period of validity. When a certificate expires, the new requirements of SSF 1076:3 must be fulfilled in order to obtain a new certificate.

“Our certified secure storage technicians have the opportunity to update their certification in accordance with the new requirements in conjunction with recertification. SBSC will be available to anyone who requires support during the transition in order to ensure a smooth process,” says Louise Wiberg, Team Leader for personnel certification.
